SNSA

Scottish National Standardised Assessments (SNSA)

This session all children (across the country ) in Primary 1, 4 and 7 will be assessed in Literacy and Numeracy. This is the first time since Curriculum for Excellence (CfE) was introduced in 2004 that a national assessment has taken place.

Staff regularly carry out their own assessments of a child’s progress so the SNSA should complement teacher judgement. These year groups are chosen because they represent the year group which is typically at the end of a CfE level. Typically : Early Level is Nursery and P1; First Level P2-P4, Second Level P5-P7, Third and Fourth Level S1-S3.

Children do not need to do anything in preparation for these assessments. The online assessment system is designed so that if a child is experiencing difficulty, the questions will get easier, and if a child is doing well, the questions become more challenging. There is no pass or fail. There is no time limit when sitting the assessments. The data from the assessments will provide the class teacher with additional information on how each child is progressing.  If you would like further information please visit:
